Car Seat Cover Rexine: The Specs That Matter
Why automotive grade is different
A car parked in an Indian summer can get extremely hot inside. Sunlight through the glass, body heat and friction from getting in and out all work on the seat cover every day. Ordinary rexine made for indoor furniture can fade, go sticky or crack under these conditions. Automotive-grade PVC leather is formulated with heat and UV stabilisers and a tougher top coat.
The checklist
- Heat and UV stability: ask how the material behaves after heat ageing and light exposure. Colours should not fade quickly and the surface should not turn tacky.
- Abrasion resistance: the side bolster of a driver's seat takes the most wear. Ask for an abrasion test report with the standard named.
- Backing: knitted backing stretches over curves and around headrests without wrinkling. Woven backing is stiffer and better for flat panels.
- Tear and seam strength: seat covers are stretched and stitched tightly. Weak material tears at the needle holes.
- Perforation and two-tone: perforated panels improve comfort; two-tone designs need two materials with matching thickness and stretch.
- Colour consistency: if you sell to dealers, every repeat order must match. Work with a manufacturer that keeps a master shade and approves each batch against it.
Bikes and auto rickshaws
Two-wheeler seat covers and auto rickshaw hoods face even harsher outdoor exposure: direct sun, rain and dust. For hoods, buyers on B2B marketplaces commonly use 54 inch wide material. A water-resistant surface, UV stability and good cold-crack performance in winter matter most here.
| Application | Priority properties |
|---|---|
| Car seat covers | Heat & UV stability, abrasion, stretch |
| Bike seat covers | UV, water resistance, abrasion |
| Auto rickshaw hood | UV, water resistance, cold-crack, tear strength |
| Door trims | Grain match, heat stability |

Quick FAQ
Which rexine is used for car seat covers?
Automotive-grade PVC leather with heat and UV stabilisers, good abrasion resistance and usually a knitted backing for stretch.
Can car seat rexine be perforated?
Yes. Perforated panels are common for comfort and style and are usually combined with plain panels of the same material.
